There are many excellent books and websites relating to military badges but this is the first website to focus specifically on the York and Lancaster Regiment. This site is intended to give anyone who has an interest in the York and Lancaster Regiment or indeed in military badge collecting, an insight into the type of badges worn by the regiment.
Descriptions and photographs are included that will give anyone involved in military history a comprehensive reference source to the badges worn by the York and Lancaster Regiment during its 200 year history.
Because the York and Lancaster Regiment was in existence for so long and used many different forms of uniforms, it would be impossible to show or even find examples of every badge worn by the regiment throughout its history. Although most periods of the regiment are represented, many of the earlier badges have been impossible to track down.
Examples of badges come from personal collections as well as the regimental museum collection. Reference sources such as the National Archives, the regimental archives and of course well known badge collecting books, have all been thoroughly consulted. One of the most illuminating resources used has been the photographic collection contained in the York and Lancaster regimental archive which has yielded information about regimental insignia that has previously not been available to collectors and historians.
I hope that visitors to this site, whether they are military badge collectors, historians or those with an interest in this fine Yorkshire regiment, will find it a useful source of information.
