Amongst the first 49th Division badges worn by the Hallamshire Battalion in Iceland were embroidered badges made by local seamstresses (records in the York and Lancaster archives for the Hallamshire Battalion in 1942 show that local ladies were commissioned to make cloth badges until officially produced badges could be issued).
