General Service Cap (GS Cap) 1943 to 1947

The General Service cap (GS cap) was introduced in 1943 to replace the Field Service cap. The cap was made of gaberdine material and then later, serge material. (As the Field Service cap was made of gaberdine, stocks of this material remained leading to the Director of Ordnance Supplies ordering that the stocks of gaberdine had to be used up before production of the GS cap was switched to a serge material).

The GS cap was apparently unpopular with soldiers and was eventually replaced by a khaki beret by 1947.

This particular example was made by J Collett of London Ltd in gaberdine material, is dated 1945 and has the WW2 economy plastic cap badge.
