This brass medal was part of a series awarded for inter unit competitions within the 49th (West Riding) Infantry Division. 

This particular medal was awarded to a member of the Hallamshire Battalion during the 1946 Small Arms Meeting, in this instance for the Novice's LMG Match (LMG=Light Machine Gun otherwise know as the Bren gun).
