84th Silver brooch
This silver brooch is hallmarked 1897 and was made by FN (Frederick Narbrough of Birmingham).
The 84th emblem could be misleading and could give the impression that the brooch was made during the existence of the 84th Regiment of Foot. This of course cannot be possible as the 84th was merged with the 65th in 1881 to become the York and Lancaster Regiment and the hallmark clearly shows the brooch was made in 1897.
As the 65th became the 1st Battalion and the 84th became the 2nd Battalion, it can be assumed that this was a brooch made for a member of the 2nd Battalion in 1897.
