2nd Volunteer Battalion Silver Officers Badge

This is an unusual badge.

It is a Tiger and Rose pattern but with the addition of a scroll attached to the bottom of the badge. The scroll has the words '2nd Volunteer Battn'. The badge is cast in silver in one piece and has lugs.

Records of which volunteer badges were made and when are difficult to find although it is known that local jewellers were commissioned to make unofficial badges for officers of volunteer units. Although it is possible that this is one of those locally commissioned badges, it doesn't follow the normal volunteer badge pattern and could therefore be a modern item.
