This is a rare badge.
The Tiger is set within a scroll and laurel wreath all in silver with the words ‘York and Lancaster’. The Rose has a white enameled centre with red enameled petals.
It is reminiscent of the Officers forage cap badge pattern (type 10 & 11) but instead of being in gilt, it is in silver. This suggests it was made for an Officer in a Volunteer Battalion and may also be a forage cap badge.
This badge is on sliver loops.
Records of which volunteer badges were made and when are difficult to find although it is known that local jewellers were commissioned to make unofficial badges for officers of volunteer units. It is possible that this is one of those locally commissioned badges.
