The circlet is silver with the words ‘York and Lancaster Regiment’ on it. The seeded centre is gilt with the Crown in silver and the Union Rose in silver with a gilt centre.
The use of the Crown and Rose predates the use of the Tiger as the centre piece of waist belt clasps which indicates that the clasp was in use pre 1881 when the 65th and 84th were merged.
A manufacturers pattern card exists that identifies this waist belt clasp as 84th of Foot.
The belt loops ends are in gilt.
