Sir Charles Stoddart was a stalwart of the 2nd Volunteer Battalion and was an outstanding citizen of Rotherham where the HQ of the 2nd VB was based. He retired in 1906 so its no surprise that he was awarded a funeral with full military honours.
He is buried in the family plot at Moorgate cemetery in Rotherham and the picture shows his funeral cortege moving through the streets of Rotherham.
The Officers in the cortege are wearing full dress with the Home Service Helmet. Other ranks are wearing the Service Dress cap and have cloth embroidered shoulder titles '2' over 'V' over 'Y&L'
