The helmet plate is a standard 8 pointed star made of white metal with a laurel wreath surmounted by a Queen Victoria Crown that displaces the top point of the star. The Garter Proper encircles a white rose that has been brazed to the plate.
Although the 4th Administrative Battalion came into existence in 1860, helmet plates were introduced by General Order number 40 of 1st May 1878 meaning that these helmet plates only existed for a short period.
At least 3 variations to this pattern of plate exist.
