A gilt laurel wreath surmounted by a Coronet. In the centre of the wreath is the Garter with the motto ‘Honi soit qui mal y pense’ and the number 84 cut out of a solid centre.
On some examples, a silver rose is placed at the bottom of the laurel wreath. The 2 1/4 inch lines of gold braid identify this Shako as belonging to a Subaltern.
